Known as the ‘Matterhorn’ of the Himalayas, this is a beautiful pyramid shaped mountain, standing at 6,170m tall. The name came as a result of the glacier which is situated on its southwest face, resembling a jewel box connected to the collar of the mountain. The name Amadablam translates to ‘The Mother’s Jewel Box’. The long ridges on either side are the arms of a mother ‘Ama’, protecting her child, and the hanging glacier is the ‘Dablam’, the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of Gods worn by Sherpa women.
